Dr Ry Tweedie-Cullen was born in Auckland and studied neurobiology at the University of Auckland and Heidelberg University in Germany, before completing a PhD in neuroscience at ETH Zürich and undertaking research in Boston. He later returned to New Zealand to study medicine at the University of Auckland, and has since worked across Auckland hospitals and in general practice.
Dr Tweedie-Cullen first encountered medicinal cannabis while living overseas, where it was already an established treatment, and later through his patients in clinical practice in New Zealand. Having seen the role it can play for patients with a range of physical and psychological conditions, he wanted to be able to offer it as a treatment option.
Outside of medicine, Dr Tweedie-Cullen is a ceramicist and also enjoys photography, travelling, art and architecture.
