Medical Director – Cannabis Clinic
After graduating from Otago University in 2014, Dr. Will Parkyn worked in the hospital to gain experience in managing pain and a variety of symptoms, at the same time completing post graduate qualifications. He then became a rural GP where he cared for a wide range of patients in a remote town in New Zealand, before moving back to his hometown of Nelson. Here he was Clinical Director of a large Urgent Care Centre and head GP of a clinic specialising in caring for the most vulnerable in our population.
As a GP specialist, Dr. Parkyn is interested in patient-centered, patient-led, medicine. Having witnessed many amazing transformations in his patients using cannabis medicinally, he decided to follow this passion to enable more to utilise the unique healing properties this ancient plant can offer.
He now leads the clinical team at the Cannabis Clinic where he can promote his passions: decreasing potential for harm for those using cannabis; improving the lives of patients; promoting safe accessible plant-based medicines; enabling data collection and promotion of cannabinoid evidence; maintaining, supporting and promoting a high level of medicolegal and professional standards amongst clinicians; navigating this new field of medicine and lastly advocating for patient rights. Outside of medicine, he loves the outdoors, gardening, DIY renos, listening to music, ecological restoration and living life with his wife and five kids.
