Dr. Owen graduated from medical school in Colorado (United States) in 2013 and went on to do his residency training in Rural Family Medicine through Oregon Health & Science University.
He was in Denver for medical school when cannabis was legalised, then in Oregon for residency/specialty training when it became legal there.
Dr. Owen is currently a senior registrar in the RNZCUC urgent care fellowship programme. He’s worked with musculoskeletal/ chronic pain patients since the early 2000s and has a passion for this area of healthcare.
He was inspired to become a doctor after seeing the devastation of the Haiti earthquake in 2010. It made him want to do everything he could to help people in need. He was fortunate enough to travel to Haiti, Guatemala and Kenya, providing free medical care to many underserved communities.
Dr. Owen loves the human connection we get in healthcare and believes that being allowed to help ease someone’s suffering is a special position to be in.
In his free time, Dr. Owen is an avid paragliding pilot and has recently expanded into paramotoring. He enjoys anything outdoors, especially hiking/tramping and camping with his wife and old dog, Moose.
